In a message posted to its Telegram channel, the militant group said a suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt in the middle of a crowd in Sadr City, an eastern Baghdad suburb, on Monday night.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi convened an emergency meeting of top security commanders to discuss the attack. Hospitals said the death toll could continue to rise, as many of the injured are in critical condition.
