(VOVworld) – Israel’s security cabinet on Sunday decided to deploy more troops into and launch air strikes targeting into the border area with the Gaza Strip. Israeli leaders haven’t approved the operation into Gaza but will take it into consideration. A high-raking Israeli official said the deployment of troops into the border area paved the way for a ground operation.

Also on Sunday, UN chief Ban Ki-moon said a ground operation targeting Gaza would increase the death toll of civilians. The UN Chief urged all parties to halt conflicts that caused casualties among Palestinian civilians, stressing the importance of a ceasefire. Israel’s air strikes in Gaza have over the past 6 days killed at least 170 people, mostly civilians.
