It is unclear where precisely any such measure would be applied, whether only in Israeli settlements or in specific areas of the West Bank and whether any concrete steps.

Netanyahu's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the prime minister supports annexation.

Far-right members of Netanyahu's ruling coalition have been calling on the government to annex parts of the West Bank in response to France, Britain, Australia, and Canada’s recent declarations to formally recognize a Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly in September.

The United Nations and the majority of the international community consider Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, including the West Bank, as well as the construction of settlements there, to be illegal.
