Israel-Hamas conflict: fighting continues along Israel-Lebanon border

(VOVWORLD) - The Israeli Army (IDF) said Monday that Hezbollah forces in Lebanon launched two attacks with about 20 rockets, targeting residential areas Kiryat Shmona, Margaliot, and Manara in northern Israel.

Most of the rockets were intercepted by Israel's “Iron Dome” defense system. The rest fell in open areas and did not cause any casualties. Hezbollah's missile attacks came a few hours after  Israeli air strikes against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

An Israeli official said Monday night that Israel's negotiating team will return to the table this week, but did not specify who Israel's chief negotiator will be or whether the venue will be Doha (Qatar) or Cairo (Egypt). Egyptian sources said Sunday that negotiations were suspended because the Israelis kept making new demands.

Syrian media has reported that Israeli air strikes on Sunday in Damascus and its suburbs killed one Syrian soldier and injured three others. On Monday Israel continued to launch air strikes near the Syria-Lebanon border, killing Mr. Baraa Al-Katerji, a prominent businessman and supporter of Syria’s President. Al-Katerji and his brother Hussam built a business empire on oil, logistics, transportation, and construction in Syria. Their business is under US sanctions, accused of transporting oil and financing the government of President Bashar Al-Assad.
