ITE - HCMC 2018 expo for green, sustainable, effective tourism industry

(VOVWORLD) - A seminar on ASEAN tourism awards and a ceremony to grant ASEAN tourism awards 2018 certificates were held on Friday, as part of the 14th International Travel Expo-Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen Van Tuan, Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said Vietnam and other ASEAN members have achieved many positive results in tourism cooperation.

ASEAN has initiated a tourism development strategy until 2025 with priority given to green, sustainable, harmonized, and efficient tourism. To achieve these targets, ASEAN tourism community has issued a standard collection of 8 criteria on green tourism. The criteria relate to hotels, accommodations, demonstrating the bloc’s vision, unity, and specific actions towards developing a hospitality industry responsible to the community.

Within the framework of the seminar, a ceremony was held to present the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Awards (ASTA) for the Thai Hai Reserve Area of Ecological Houses-on-stilts Ethnic Village in Thai Nguyen, the “ASEAN Clean Tourist City” title for Hue, Da Lat city and Hoi An town, the ASEAN Green Hotel Award, and the ASEAN MICE venue award for 5 Vietnamese hotels. The hotels were honored at the ASEAN tourism forum in Thailand in January 2018.
