(VOVworld) -  The 5th Japan-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Forum on building national defense capability between Japan and ASEAN concluded Wednesday in Okinawa, Japan.

The 2-day forum dealt with non-traditional security issues. The heads of the ASEAN delegations praised Japan’s contributions in cooperating and devising annual projects to help ASEAN countries build national defense and military capability to handle non-traditional security issues due to climate change and emerging issues such as hi-tech crime and cyber security. Participants acclaimed Japan-ASEAN cooperation in the framework of the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus, especially the collaboration in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Brunei, Vietnam, and other countries. The Vietnamese military delegation was led by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh.
