(VOVworld)- Tens of thousands of people, including aging survivors of the Hiroshima tragedy, relatives of victims, government officials, and foreign delegates gathered for ceremonies in Hiroshima on Wednesday, to mark the 69th anniversary of the US atomic bombing of the city.
Japanese news agency Kyodo reproted that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, representatives of the world’s nuclear powers including the UK, France, Russia, and 64 other countries were present to offer early morning prayers for the victims at Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima. Attendees observed a moment of silence in the rain at 8:15 am local time, when the atomic bomb nicknamed “Little Boy” exploded 600 m above ground level.
Prime Minister Abe vowed to spare no effort to eliminate nuclear weapons toward a more peaceful world.  Japan, the only country to have suffered nuclear damage during a war, will take the responsibility of warning future generations about the inhumanity of nuclear weapons.
