(VOVworld) - Japan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera has called for setting up a maritime security hotline between Japan and China. Onodera spoke Friday, 2 days after a Chinese fighter jet again approached unusually close to Japanese Self-Defense Forces aircraft. This was the second time in less than three weeks Japan has made such an accusation following a similar incident late last month.
Deputy Foreign Minister Akitaka Saiki summoned Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua to make the protest and urge Beijing to establish a maritime hotline with Tokyo.
