(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s Liberal Democratic party (LDP) and its coalition partner Komeito party declared victory in Sunday's election with a majority of seats in Japan's upper house. The final result of the Diet election showed that the LDP had won 55 of the 121 contested seats, bringing its total seats in the Diet to 145.

Komeito won 14 contested seats to occupy a total of 25 seats. Attaining 170 seats in the 242-seat-Diet, the ruling coalition continues to control the two houses which paves the way for Prime Minister Abe to pursue his development policies.
After acknowledging that the ruling coalition had won the election and retained the majority in the upper house, Prime Minister Abe told a press briefing during the vote counting that the result showed voters’ trust in the ruling government and his economic policies, known as Abenomics.
