Japanese media cover talks between Vietnamese, Japanese PMs

(VOVWORLD) - The Kyodo News Agency on Monday published a story entitled “Japan and Vietnam agree to cooperate on security in the East Sea”.

It cited PM Abe’s statement at a press conference that Japan does not border the East Sea but sees it as strategically important. He said Japan is committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. PM Phuc said the two sides agreed on the necessity of ensuring peace, security and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea. Mr. Phuc welcomed Japan's efforts to secure economic prosperity, freedom of trade, and maritime safety in the Indo-Pacific region.

In an article posted on its website, television station NHK said the two PMs agreed to enhance cooperation in maintaining maritime security to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and work harder to promote trade liberalisation and implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Agreement.

NHK quoted Mr. Abe as saying Japan and Vietnam will step up cooperation for development of the Mekong region. mr. Phuc said Japan plays a very important role in Vietnam’s development strategy, and he wants bilateral relations to expand.
