Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party-led (LDP) coalition won a combined 312 seats in the 465-member lower house. The LDP alone won 283 seats, while its coalition partner Komeito won 29 seats. The ruling coalition taking a two-thirds majority in the lower house bolsters Abe’s chance to become the longest-serving prime minister in Japan's history. The lower house is expected to elect Abe as Japan’s Prime Minister at a special session early next month.
