Karate martial artists take gold, third gold for Vietnam at ASIAD Hangzhou

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam outplayed Malaysia in the Women’s Team Kata at the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in Hangzhou, China, on Friday, winning a gold medal, the third gold medal for Vietnam at the continental sporting competition 2023.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen and Nguyen Ngoc Tram made a convincing performance, scoring 42.70 points, while Malaysian martial artists obtained only 39 points in total.

This is the third gold medal for Vietnam at ASIAD 2023, following one snatched in Shooting and another one in Sepak Takraw.

The same day saw Vietnam take a bronze medal in Sepak Takraw’s men triple after their defeat to Thailand in a semi-final match.

On Friday Vietnamese athletes are competing in Karate, Ju jitsu, Wrestling, Sepak Takraw, Archery and Volleyball.

So far, Vietnamese athletes have won three gold, three silver, and 17 bronze medals, putting them in 20th place in the overall standings at this year’s Asian Games.
