(VOVWORLD) - As the European Commission prepares for its fifth inspection on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in November, the central province of Khanh Hoa has intensified efforts to lift the EC’s “yellow card” warning.

Local authorities have been enforcing strict management measures for fishing vessels, including registration, licensing, and voyage monitoring of all vessels.
At the My Tan fishing port in Ninh Hai commune, inspection teams closely check fishing logs, crew lists, vessel monitoring data, and unloading records. Every boat entering or leaving the port must declare information electronically and obtain clearance before setting sail.
“My boat usually spends around 15 days fishing offshore. We only operate in Vietnamese waters. When we return to sell our catch, the authorities inspect all documents before allowing us to go out again,” Nguyen Thanh Hieu, a fisherman from Ninh Hai commune, told VOV:.
All the more than 5,200 fishing vessels in Khanh Hoa have been licensed for operation.
“Most fishermen are now following IUU regulations properly. They keep complete records and documents, and compliance has been improving," said Huynh Hai, head of the My Tan Fishing Port Management Board.
