Lawmakers discuss use, management of resources for COVID-19 fight
(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly deputies on Monday scrutinized the mobilisation, management and use of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control and the enforcement of laws and regulations regarding grassroots health care and preventive medicine.

According to a report by the NA’s Committee for Social Affairs, 9.8 billion USD was raised for pandemic prevention and control between 2020 and 2022. Vietnam received a total of 260 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
Millions of volunteers, especially medical workers and military officers, were on the frontline of the pandemic response, contributing to the control of the disease.
Deputy Nguyen Lan Hieu of Binh Dinh province, said Vietnam should consider announcing the end of the pandemic because first, there is no longer any severe illness caused by COVID-19.
“Second, Vietnam has achieved a very wide vaccine coverage. There have been 266 million injections of people of over 12 years old, and a fourth dose has been given to people over 18 at high risk,” he said.
The COVID-19 situation has stabilized around the world, Mr. Hieu said, adding that early this month, the WHO declared COVID-19 no longer a global emergency.
“These are the three necessary conditions for Vietnam to reclassify COVID-19 from a class A infectious disease to class B. That means from a particularly dangerous disease with high transmission, a wide spread, and a high mortality rate to an infectious disease capable of rapid transmission that can cause death,” said Mr. Hieu.
