Lawmakers were told at a  National Assembly session on Tuesday that the first phase of the project will cost about 4.8 billion USD, which will come from aviation businesses and other sources. The Government proposed the Aiports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) as amajor investor in the project. Lawmakers said that Long Thanh airport must generate economic momentum for Vietnam.

“I agree with the plan to mobilize capital from both domestic sources and the state budget. Transparency will help attract capital from the general public,” said Deputy Truong Trong Nghia of HCM city.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said that foreign investors will be mobilized only when domestic resources fail to meet the demand. He noted that the airport will be equipped with current state-of-the-art technologies. The airport will be able to serve up to 25 million passengers each year upon completion, according to Mr. The , adding that the number will jump to 85 million by 2030 and 100 million in the second phase.
