He said that with the biggest trade deal ever signed with the EU, the UK has taken back control of its border laws and fishing rights. The agreement is similar to a deal between Canada, the UK, and the EU, he said, adding that the UK will be a friend, an ally, a supporter, and the biggest market of the EU.
Mr. Johnson said Parliament will vote to approve the deal next Thursday.
Former UK Prime Ministers David Cameron and Theresa May welcomed the deal.
French President Emmanuel Macron praised the EU’s consistent stance, which resulted in the completion of a post-Brexit deal with the UK.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said the deal is good news and the UK will remain an important partner and ally of the EU and Italy.
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said the deal will maintain the strong EU-UK relationship and will ensure healthy competition.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen call the deal “fair and balanced.”
