President Xi said China is willing to work with Russia "to continue to support each other on issues related to core interests and major concerns such as sovereignty and security", tighten strategic cooperation between the two countries, strengthen communication and coordination within important international and regional organizations like the United Nations, the world's leading emerging economies group (BRICS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Xinhua News Agency quoted President Putin as declaring his support for the China-proposed Global Security Initiative and opposed any force to interfere in China's internal affairs through issues of Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Discussing the situation in Ukraine, President Xi said that Beijing makes independent judgments and actively promotes world peace and stability of the global economic order. He called on all parties to "promote a responsible settlement of the Ukraine crisis" and pledged that China will continue to "play its rightful role".

Xi and Putin held a phone call about the situation in Ukraine on February 25, just one day after the Russia-Ukraine armed conflict occurred.
