Libya: 83 deaths, injuries in Mitiga attack
(VOVWORLD) - At least 20 people were killed and 63 wounded, 3 of them seriously, in a clash between an armed group and authorities at Mitiga Airport near Tripoli on Monday, Libya’s Health Ministry reported.
Local media said automatic gunfire and artillery rounds could be heard from surrounding areas.
The Government of National Accord (GNA) said an unidentified group was attempting to free members of the Islamic State, al-Queda, and other terrorists held in a detention centre. Staff and travelers at the airport were evacuated and the airport was shut down until further notice.
