Malaysian, Dutch PMs discuss measures to secure MH17 crash site

(VOVworld) – Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak met Thursday in the Netherlands to discuss the international response to the MH17 crash. They called for a cessation of hostilities by both sides in Ukraine around the crash site and “full and unfettered” access to the area. Rutte said the Netherlands and Malaysia share three priorities in dealing with the crash: the repatriation of the victims and their personal belongings, “obtaining clarity” on the cause of the accident, and making sure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

In another development, Dutch and Australian experts, as well as international observers, arrived at the crash site on Thursday after days of fierce clashes in this area. Earlier, the Ukrainian Parliament agreed on Wednesday to allow international investigators to use military equipment at the crash site for security purposes.

Russia submitted to the United Nations and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) its objective area surveillance data for the Malaysian Boeing crash site in Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin told the UN Security Council Wednesday. Churkin said Russia counts on others to act equally, objectively and constructively rather than spreading accusations and insinuations. According to Churkin, Russian experts began working at the crash site immediately after receiving a request from the Dutch, who are leading the international investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
