(VOVworld) – A meeting to disseminate the Party guidelines and State policy on drug prevention and control opened in Ha Tinh city on Thursday with the participation of 11 provinces.

The event was held by the National Committee for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Public Security, and Ha Tinh province’s People’s Committee. The event aimed to raise people’s awareness about the impacts of drugs, honor individuals and organizations who work to prevent drugs trafficking, transport and usage, and to eliminate discrimination against drug addicts and post-addicts.

The same day, Can Tho city’s Youth Union held a meeting to mark Anti-drug Day and acknowledged 10 people and organizations for their excellent work with their anti-drug messages. Le Van Tam, Vice Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee, called on all people, especially the young, to engage in combating drugs and other anti-social phenomena. Secretary of the Youth Union of the Can Tho University of Technology and Economics Nguyen Doan Trinh spoke at the event: “We will join voluntary groups to publicize the serious impacts and consequences of drugs. We will encourage young people to attend healthy cultural and sport activities and stay away from drugs. We’ll also assist drug users to reintegrate in to the community after detoxification.”

Ho Chi Minh city also launched an action month on drug prevention and control and held a ceremony to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with the participation of 1,500 people.
