Mekong Delta aims to double its economic size by 2030

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for an all-out effort to ensure rapid and sustainable development in the Mekong Delta.

Addressing a conference to announce the master plan and investment promotion program for the region until 2030, PM Chinh said  the Mekong Delta plays a crucial role in politics, socio-economy, security and national defense and in trade with ASEAN and Mekong sub-region states.

He emphasized the need to effectively implement the 13th National Party Congress resolution which sets targets for the Mekong Delta to achieve an annual average growth rate of 6.5%-7% between 2021 and 2030, as well as an aim to double the region’s economy by 2030.

Participants at the conference focused their discussion on agriculture restructuring, investment attraction in the processing industry, irrigation infrastructure development, trade promotion, renewable energy development, culture and tourism, and regional connectivity.
Commitments to finance the implementation of a number of infrastructure development programs and projects in the framework of the master plan were also announced.
