(VOVWORLD) - Children in the mountain, border areas of Son La are celebrating a meaningful mid-autumn festival with gifts from the local authorities and donors.

The teachers and children of Co Ma Ethnic Semi-boarding Secondary School in Son La province have made star-shaped lanterns for the festival.
“My name is Sung Thi Tau. Our homes are far from the school, so we stay in the dormitory with our teachers. This Mid-Autumn Festival, we celebrated together with our teachers and friends, made star lanterns, and joined art performances. It was really fun and exciting.”

Almost all 650 students at the school are from ethnic minority families, many of whom are from poor and near poor families. Deputy Principal Le Trung Kien, said: “Understanding the students’ hardships, the school has mobilized all possible resources from society, organizations, and individuals to organize a meaningful full-moon celebration. We hope it brings the children new experiences and motivation to strive for a better life.”

The officers and soldiers of Phieng Pan Border Guard Station and volunteer groups had trekked over mountains to bring the mid-autumn gifts to preschool and primary students in remote schools.
“This is the first time I’ve received mid-autumn gifts. I’m very happy. Thank you very much.”
“I’m so happy to receive cakes, candies, and toys. I hope next year’s mid-autumn festival will be celebrated like this.”

Along with gifts and essential supplies, the children and their relatives also received free health checkups, consultations, and medicine.
