(VOVWORLD) - Russia said on Wednesday attempts to resolve security issues relating to Ukraine without Moscow's participation were a "road to nowhere".

Russia, however, is in favor of "truly reliable" guarantees for Ukraine, said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference after his meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. Lavrov suggested these could be modeled on a draft accord that was discussed in Istanbul in 2022, in the early weeks of the conflict.
He emphasized that Russia cannot agree with European countries' proposals to “resolve questions of security, collective security, without the Russian Federation.” “We have already explained more than once that Russia does not overstate its interests, but we will ensure our legitimate interests firmly and harshly,” Lavrov said.
He added Russia is ready to continue negotiations with Ukraine in any format and may consider raising the level of the heads of delegations.
