Mustapha Adib named new Lebanon prime minister
(VOVWORLD) - Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Monday named envoy to Germany Mustapha Adib as Lebanon's new Prime Minister, following the resignation of the previous cabinet led by Hassan Diab in response to mounting pressure over the August 4 port explosions in Beirut.

Adib immediately called for the swift formation of a new government and immediate implementation of reforms as an entry point for an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
Adib has been Lebanon's ambassador to Germany since 2013. From 2000 to 2004, he served as advisor to former prime minister Najib Mikati. In 2011, Mikati appointed Adib as his chief of cabinet.
