NA chief meets with Vietnamese community in Cambodia

(VOVWORLD) - The Party and State always acknowledge and appreciate the role of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia with over 100,000 people, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said during Saturday’s meeting with the Vietnamese Embassy staff, and representatives of the Vietnamese diaspora in Cambodia.

At the meeting, part of his official visit to the neighbouring country, the NA Chairman said he hopes that the Vietnamese community will continue to uphold the spirit of solidarity and mutual support, comply with local laws, and strive for self-improvement.

He applauded the performance of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, the Association of Vietnamese in Cambodia, and the Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs in Cambodia, and informed them of Vietnam’s socio-economic development and the major policies the legislative body is discussing.

Sharing the challenges facing overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia, the top legislator said that he has asked Cambodian leaders to continue paying attention to and facilitate Vietnamese people in the country to live and work stably and legally in Cambodia.

Mr. Man said he also called for an appropriate relocation plan for those living on rivers, including setting up resettlement areas with necessary infrastructure, basic social welfare, and support for career transition for the affected families.

Chairman Man also proposed Cambodia accelerate the process of granting citizenship to eligible Vietnamese people.
