The NA recognized the government’s determination to create changes in national stabilization and growth. Current weaknesses of sectors and socio-economic fields were pointed out, and put in a context of Vietnam’s independence, sovereignty, and security being seriously threatened. Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung commented on the session: “The National Assembly asked the government and agencies at all levels to be united with entrepreneurs, soldiers, and the people to maintain internal strength and make full use of foreign investment resources, support, and solidarity to stabilize the national macro-economy. The government should pay attention to restructuring and changing the economic model, implementing social security policies, reducing poverty, resolutely defending national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and ensuring political security and social order.

Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the NA 7th session took place at a time when China is encroaching in the East Sea and has placed its oil rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. Lawmakers said China’s actions have violated Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction, as well as international law.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said: “The National Assembly has issued a statement proclaiming Vietnam’s stance, strongly condemning China’s illegal placement of oil rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in the East Sea. The National Assembly praised statements of members of the National Assembly and others expressing their patriotism and determination to protect Vietnam’s sea and islands sovereignty. The National Assembly called on all people living in Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese to unite and to support the policies of the Party and Government to resolutely protect the territorial sovereignty of Vietnam on the basis of international law and to maintain the peace and traditional long term friendship between Vietnam and China. The National Assembly of Vietnam expressed its deep gratitude to legislatures, senators, organizations, individuals and friends all over the world who have been staunchly supporting Vietnam.”

During this session, National Assembly deputies gave opinions on revisions to Resolution No 35 on votes of confidence for people holding positions elected or approved by the NA or the People's Councils. National Assembly chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung called it an important matter directly related to officials from central to local levels, so more discussion is needed to ensure a high-quality Resolution with high consensus. The National Assembly approved 11 Laws, 2 Resolutions, and commented on another 16 draft Laws and 1 Resolution.
