At the meeting in Hanoi, the Prime Minister sent New Year greetings to the Overseas Vietnamese community. He said that the Vietnamese spirit and tradition of solidarity and resilience has shined more brightly to overcome the adversity of the COVID-19 pandemic. From a country with a very low vaccination rate, Vietnam has become one of the six countries with the highest vaccination coverage rate in the world, Mr. Chinh said, adding macro-economy continues to be stable and production and business activities are gradually restored. These important achievements of the country are partly thanks to the effective, timely, and responsible contribution of more than 5.3 million Overseas Vietnamese, he said.

According to the Prime Minister, Vietnam will continue to promote the great national unity bloc in 2022. The Government will continue to improve citizen protection, create a favorable environment for Overseas Vietnamese to contribute wisdom and realize the aspiration to develop Vietnam into a powerful and prosperous country, Mr Chinh said. More commercial air routes will be reopened soon to facilitate people returning home from abroad.

Earlier Saturday, in Hanoi, leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front met and honored 33 teams and 45 individuals representing Vietnamese expatriate communities abroad for their contributions to community unity and COVID-19 prevention and control.

On Saturday evening, Overseas Vietnamese returnees were treated to the Spring Homeland Art Program at the Hanoi Opera House.
