Mr. Trong said the resolution views the Red River Delta as a strategic region with special importance in terms of politics, economics, culture, society, environment, defense, security, and diplomacy.

Among the targets for 2030, the Delta is set to obtain fast and sustainable development, have a modern economic structure, be deeply imbued with the national cultural identity, and take the lead in science - technology, innovation, digital economy, and digital society.

By 2045, it is expected to achieve modern, civilized, and ecological development; become the leader in terms of education - training, science - technology, innovation, and health care in Vietnam; and have some major economic and financial hubs comparable to others in the world.

“The 13th National Party Congress resolution says that regional development orientations should focus on making full use of each region’s advantages in infrastructure, natural conditions, economic and political position, human resources, and strengthening internal and regional connectivity to take part in the global value chain,” said Party leader Trong.

The Red River Delta is comprised of 11 provinces and centrally-run cities including Hanoi, Hai Phong city, and Quang Ninh province. The region made up 29.4% of the national GDP in 2020.
