This claim is unreasonable and a challenge to modern international law and international norms on sovereignty claims. Doctor Hosoda said China’s island construction and expansion and pilot flights in the East Sea have increased tensions in the region. He said world powers such as the US, Australia, and India should increase naval cooperation with regional countries to ensure security in the East Sea, adding that Japan can help reinforce law enforcement at sea by providing patrol boats and personnel training. Doctor Hosoda said that all countries should create a stable security environment to spur growth and economic development as a way to resolve disputes in the East Sea. He stressed the importance of peaceful dispute settlement through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms such as ASEAN or the United Nations.
