The tripartite deal was signed by the Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia.

Responding to the ceasefire, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a ‘lasting political solution’ for Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan discussed the establishment of a joint center outside the Nagorno-Karabakh region to supervise the ceasefire.

Nagorno-Karabakh is in southwestern Azerbaijan. It is primarily populated by Armenians who want it to be declared Armenian territory. The territorial dispute reached a flashpoint between 1988 and 1994, claiming 30,000 lives. The conflict reignited in September, resulting in thousands more casualties.
