Qatar Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani made an unannounced visit to Saudi Arabia to discuss regional issues with Saudi King Abdullah. This was their first meeting since the diplomatic disputes last March over the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in the region. While Saudi Arabia supported Egypt’s Israel-backed initiative, Qatar supported Hamas’s demands for the ending of Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
