(VOVWORLD) - The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics to American Arthur Ashkin, French Gerard Mourou and Canadian Donna Strickland for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics.

Strickland becomes only the third woman to win a Nobel prize for physics.
The award ceremony for winners of this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry and Economics will be held in Stockholm this December. The Peace Prize will be awarded in Oslo City Hall and the Literature Prize is not held for the first time in 70 years.
