(VOVWORLD) - Risks of flashfloods and land erosion in the northern mountain region are rising due to torrential rains in the past few days, according to the National Center for Hydro- Meteorological Forecasting.

Rainfall in Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang, and Bac Giang province has risen to 30-70 mm. The Steering Committee for Disaster Response of Thai Nguyen province has warned the locals of staying away from dangerous and risky areas. Mr. Tran Van Dung is Head of the Disaster Response Section of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development: “The Disaster Response Committee has warned people of areas at risks of torrential rains, flash flood, and land erosion and made prompt response. We have also asked district and commune authorities to prevent people from crossing bridges these days.”

Nguyen Cong Ham, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Quang province, said measures to resist torrential rains and flash floods have been taken: “We have asked local districts to review all disaster response measures. We closely monitor weather developments and asked localities to follow response plans.”

On Sunday, Ha Giang province was seriously hit by torrential rains. Deputy Director of the Sub-Department of Fisheries Resources Hoang Manh Hung said the local Steering Committee for Disaster Response has arranged task forces in risky areas to respond to any bad situation.
