(VOVworld)- The Vietnamese Ambassador to Norway Le Thi Tuyet Mai recently met with the
Chairwoman of the External Relations and Defence Committee of the Norwegian Parliament Anniken Huitfeldt. Mai briefed Ms Huifeldt  on China’s deployment of hundreds of law enforcement ships, war ships, military aircraft and its illegal placement of oil rig Haiyang 981 deep in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. Mai also sent Ms Huifeldt a letter from Mr. Tran Van Hang, Head of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s External Relations Committee reporting on the Vietnamese National Assembly’s statement on China’s provocative acts in the East Sea. The statement calls on the Norwegian Parliament and legislative bodies all over the world to support Vietnamese people in respecting and defending the values of international law, asking China to halt its actions and withdraw oil rig Haiyang 981 and escort forces from Vietnam’s waters. The Chairwoman of the External Relations and Defence Committee of the Norwegian Parliament expressed her concern about recent developments in the East Sea saying that international law must be the foundation for settling current international disputes, especially territorial disputes in the East Sea. Ms Huitfeldt promised to convey Mr. Hang’s proposal to other Norwegian Members of Parliament.
