(VOVWORLD) - State President To Lam on Thursday met with outstanding elders at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on the occasion of the 83rd traditional day of the Vietnamese elderly (June 6, 1941-2024).

In his address, President To Lam said: “I expect all sectors and organizations from the central to local levels will listen to the thoughts and aspirations of the elderly, adopt policies and create favorable conditions for them, and support the Association of the Elderly to operate in line with the tradition of "remembering the source of the water we drink".
The President proposed that the Association for the Elderly contribute ideas to the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress and the draft report summarizing 40 years of national renewal.
Vietnam now has about 17 million elderly people.
