(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Tuesday attended the launch of a program to plant one billion trees by 2025.

Addressing the ceremony in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang, the Prime Minister stressed the need to combine forest development with eco-tourism, and the preservation of indigenous culture, to make Tuyen Quang a role model of the forestry economy.
"Socio-economic development, in harmony with nature, will lead people to a truly prosperous, happy, and peaceful life. Every household, organization, and individual should plant trees for a brighter future,” said Mr. Phuc.
Prime Minister Phuc proposed the one billion tree program at a National Assembly session last November.
Working with Tuyen Quang leaders the same day, the Prime Minister said as the province ranks third in forest coverage in Vietnam, it should become a major hub of the country's wood industry.
