2020 was an unprecedented year in which the whole world got battered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, Vietnam’s GDP grew 2.91%, one of the highest growth rates in the world last year. Its trade surplus of 19.1 billion USD set a new record. Vietnam also had one of the 10 lowest unemployment rates.

Tran Phu Thuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Russia, said, "The numbers speak volumes about Vietnam’s economic growth and poverty reduction. They have instilled a great pride in us, who have been living far from Vietnam for a very long time, and have proven the wisdom of the Party’s leadership. We hope those accomplishments will be recognized and that all Vietnamese people, no matter where they live, will work hard and contribute to making Vietnam a prosperous nation.”

Nguyen Manh Duong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam War Veterans Association in Russia, said, “We are looking forward to the election of talented, moral personnel by the upcoming 13th National Party Congress, who will steer Vietnam through this difficult time to further development. We are particularly concerned about the fight against COVID-19.”
