As the top leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam, General Secretary Trong visited Russia twice and met with Vietnamese living there. Tran Phu Thuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese People’s Association in Russia, who welcomed General Secretary Trong twice, recalled his first meeting with Mr Trong in 2014 when the Party leader visited Russia.

“I was introduced as the long-time secretary of a Party cell abroad. The General Secretary told me that being a veteran Party cell secretary means being trusted by the masses and Party members. He encouraged me to preserve the qualities and moral behavior of a Party member and revolutionary," said Thuan.

Having met the General Secretary twice in Russia, Nguyen Quoc Hung, a senior expert at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that the meetings with Mr. Trong took place in a warm atmosphere.

“During the 2014 meeting, the General Secretary told the Vietnamese in Russia that no matter where we go, we must always remember that we are the offspring of Lac Long Quan and Au Co, the ancestors of Vietnam, and no matter what we do, we must remember we are Vietnamese." said Hung.
