OVs in Europe recall visits to Vietnam’s sea and islands

(VOVWORLD) - Hundreds of photos and artifacts related to the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and Vietnam’s sea provided by overseas Vietnamese (OVs) from European countries who have visited the islands are on display at an exhibit in Paris.

The exhibit "For the sea and islands of Vietnam", scheduled to run through June 17 at the Vietnam Cultural Centre, was initiated by the Liaison Board for Vietnamese in Europe.

Cao Hong Vinh, head of the liaison board, said, “Through the exhibit and workshop, OVs in Europe who have visited Truong Sa and the DK1 platform, want to give the Vietnamese community in Europe and international friends a better understanding and a clearer view of the lives and courageous spirit of the soldiers on the frontline defending Vietnam's sacred land.”

Eralier, at a symposium called “East Sea and Vietnam’s sovereignty”, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang said the East Sea issue is attracting greater attention from the international community and Vietnam's views are receiving wider support.

Malgorzata Pietrasiak, a professor at the University of Lodz in Poland and an expert on Vietnam, praised Vietnam's method of handling issues at sea, which she called "Hedgingowa", or "risk prevention".

“Vietnam has used multilateral diplomatic methods flexibly and effectively. It has balanced relations with the US and China and that policy has received the admiration of many countries around the world, through which Vietnam has really found great support,” said Professor Malgorzata.
