The contest in Europe was held by the Vietnamese Art and Culture Association in the Czech Republic under the auspices of the Vietnam Embassy and the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic.

Two of the contestants are from Russia, two from the Czech Republic, one from Italy, one from Ukraine, and one is Vietnamese-German.

Musician Tuan Phuong, deputy director of VTV’s Arts and Literature Department and head of the final round’s jury, said he was impressed by the performance style of many of the contestants.

He noted “this is the second time we’ve organized a Sao Mai singing contest in Europe. The candidates to this year’s contest are diverse. Some of them hold two nationalities, they sing folk music very well. Young people now prefer fashionable songs but more folk and revolutionary music has also been selected for this contest.”
