Palestinian leaders urge PLO to suspend recognition of Israel
(VOVWORLD) - Palestinian leaders have called for the suspension of recognition of Israel, in response to US President Donald Trump’s acknowledgement of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

On Monday, they overwhelmingly voted to order the Palestine Liberation Organisation to suspend recognition of the Jewish state until Israel “recognizes the state of Palestine,” cancels its annexation of East Jerusalem, and halts all settlement activities. It is unclear whether the vote by the Palestinian Central Council is binding. A vote by the Council in 2015 to suspend security coordination with Israel was never implemented.
At an irregular Central Council meeting of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on Sunday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reaffirmed that he will never accept the US's mediation efforts to settle conflicts between Palestine and Israel.
