The stamp highlights the Eiffel Tower, the River Seine, and several sports images.

La Poste Group issued its first official Olympic stamp in 1924, when Paris hosted the eighth Summer Olympic Games. According to Philippe Wahl, President and CEO of La Poste Group, this year's stamp combines the artistic and cultural spirit of Paris with the history of the Olympics and the spirit of Olympic sports.

"There will be 800,000 stamps sold and I hope that every visitor, as well as every Olympic participant, will use this stamp to send their news and postcards around the world. That’s why it has an international postage price of 1.96 euros (2.12 USD). The stamp is truly amazing," said Mr. Wahl.

Issuing private stamps is a long-standing tradition of the modern Olympics and was first done at the 1896 Olympics, which took place in Athens, Greece. This year's Olympic stamps will go on sale to the public on April 5.
