(VOVworld) – On Friday Korean Parliamentary Speaker Chung Ui-hwa proposed new inter-Korean talks, saying he is willing to meet his North Korean counterpart any time and any place.

Chung said the most appropriate time would be around August 15 when the Korean peninsula will mark the 70th anniversary of its independence from Japan's colonial rule.

He expressed hope of receiving a prompt reply from the North.

Chung's proposal comes amid a halt in government-level dialogue between the two Koreas.

A meeting on Thursday of the joint management committee of the Kaesong Industrial complex reached no agreement and set no time for the next meeting.
