Party leader and President hosts Tet get-together

(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a get-together on Wednesday in Hanoi for Party and State leaders and former leaders, revolutionary veterans, and representatives of Vietnamese people at home and abroad on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet).

Addressing the event, Mr. Trong reviewed Vietnam’s major socio-economic achievements in 2019: economic growth of more than 7%, among the highest growth in the world, the national GDP reaching 266 billion USD, and income per capita of nearly 2,800 USD, a record high in Vietnam’s history. Mr. Trong added Vietnam’s foreign affairs and international integration have been deepened, contributing to peace, stability, and development and safeguarding independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and strategic interests of the country.

Highlighting 2020 as a momentous year with important political events of Vietnam, Party leader and President Trong urged the Party, people, and army to capitalize on all potentials, advantages, and resources, continue consolidating the macro-economic foundation, control inflation, and enhance the economy’s strength and self-reliance.

He said: “On the path ahead, we will face numerous difficulties and challenges intertwined with new opportunities and advantages. With ardent patriotism, self-reliance, unity, consensus, diligence, and creativity, we believe that in the Year of the Rat 2020, our country will record greater achievements. May the revolutionary cause of Vietnamese people gain greater successes! May the country further develop and prosper, people become more wealthy, every family be joyful, and everybody be happy!”
