Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong on Wednesday afternoon met with President of Indian National Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi at the party’s headquarters

(VOVworld) – Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong on Wednesday afternoon met with President of Indian National Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi at the party’s headquarters.  Mr. Trong congratulated and spoke highly of the great advances India has made over the past years under the leadership of the United Progressive Alliance government led by the National Congress Party. The Party leader affirmed the time-honored relations between Vietnam and India and expressed his pleasure at the positive developments in bilateral ties in recent years. He expressed his hope that the visit would help to expand and deepen the Vietnam-India strategic partnership and further bilateral relations in the future.  

The Party leader stressed that the Communist Party of Vietnam treasured relations with Parties in India, especially the Indian National Congress Party, which plays the key role in the alliance government. Trong proposed the two Parties strengthen delegation exchanges, share experience in Party building, national management and enhance cooperation at multi-lateral forums. President Sonia Ganhdi expressed her hope to strengthen cooperation between the two Parties and boost exchanges between Party organizations. Later, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong invited President Sonia Gandhi to visit Vietnam. President Sonia Gandhi accepted the invitation.

The Party leader also met with the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President and Speaker of the Indian Upper House Mohammad Hamid Ansari.

The Vietnamese Party leader is scheduled to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The two leaders will witness the signing of a number of cooperative agreements. In the evening, the Indian Prime Minister held a banquette in honor of the Party leader and the Vietanmese delegation.
