(VOVworld) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Tuesday arrived in New Delhi for a state-visit to India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Party leader was welcomed at the airport by members of the Indian Government, the Vietnamese Ambassador to India, staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of overseas Vietnamese in India. The same day, Trong visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met with the embassy staff, Vietnamese students and people in India. He praised their contributions to the development of ties between the two countries over the years. Trong said that Vietnam always respected the development of friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with India: “I really hope that we will further be united and support one another to fulfill our assigned tasks. Overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese students in India are important in bridging Vietnam-India ties. We have developed a strategic partnership with India. My visit to India this time aims at lifting this relationship to a new height. India attaches great importance to this visit”.

On the occasion of Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to India, India’s NAM TODAY magazine issued a special publication front-paging the national flags of the two countries with the caption: “Celebrating 6^th anniversary of Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership and Enhancing Vietnam-India ties”. The magazine carried photos of Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong shaking hands with Speaker of Indian Lower House Meira Kumar during the former visit to India in 2010 as the National Assembly Chairman. Opening her article “India-Vietnam relationship and regional issues”, Ms Pramoda Patel, Editor in Chief of the Magazine, expressed her belief that Party leader Trong’s visit to India would open a new chapter in the bilateral ties. The magazine also introduced Mr. Trong’s biography, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh’s speech on strengthening Vietnam-India relationship for peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions and articles by Indian scholars and congressmen about bilateral cooperation as well as photos illustrating Vietnam, its land and people.
