Mr. Trong made the remark while meeting role models of various ethnic minority groups in Hanoi on Monday.

Over the past 5 years, Vietnam has allocated nearly 6 billion USD for poverty reduction and socio-economic development in mountainous regions and areas inhabited by ethnic minority people.

“These regions have seen remarkable changes. This is attributed to correct Party guidelines and State policies as well as the tireless efforts of the people including those attending the meeting today,” Mr. Trong said.

So far, 98 percent of the communes in mountainous ethnic minority areas have been accessible by car, 98.5 percent have had medical stations and 94 percent have accessed electricity from the national power grid.
