Pepper export to record 1 billion USD in 2014
(VOVworld)- Vietnam is expected to earn more than 1 billion USD from pepper export this year. According to Vietnam’s Pepper Association, Vietnam’s pepper accounts for 30% of the world’s volume. In the first half of this year, Vietnam exported more than 110,000 tons of pepper, up 30% against last year and earned more than 790 million USD, up 50%. Among Vietnam’s export items, pepper ranks first in terms of volume and export value. Do Ha Nam is President of Vietnam’s Pepper Association: “Vietnam’s pepper sector has developed rapidly. In 2001, we exported only 50,000 tons and earned 90 million USD. This year, Vietnam aims to export 150,000 tons and earn more than 1 billion USD. This is the sixth consecutive year that the price of pepper continues to rise. Vietnamese pepper accounts for more than 60% of the global market share. Vietnam can regulate the prices of the global market”.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has recently approved a plan on pepper sector development until 2020 with a vision toward 2030 aiming to increase the productivity and prices of pepper.
