Philippine, Russian journalists win Nobel Peace Prize 2021

(VOVWORLD) - The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2021 to Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.

The Committee said the two journalists are receiving the Peace Prize for their courageous fight for freedom of expression. At the same time, they are representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal.

The winners of this year's Nobel Prize will receive a gold medal and 10 million Swedish kronor (1.14 million USD).

Last year the Nobel Peace Prize honored the World Food Program for its effort in hunger elimination and ensuring peace to areas affected by disputes.
