Physics Nobel prize 2017 honors gravitational waves project

(VOVWORLD) - Three US scientists Rainer Weiss, Barry C. Barish, and Kip S. Thorne, have won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their discovery of gravitational waves with their work on the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or “LIGO”.

The Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences said the 1.1 million USD prize will go half to Weiss and half to Barish and Thorne.

LIGO is a 620-million-USD gravitational-wave observatory station that helps scientists observe two black holes collide, which creates gravitational waves.
